Thieves apparently looking to steal wheels from cars at a Fairfield dealership, broke into and vandalized four vehicles at Devan Infiniti, 26 Commerce Drive.
According to the report, the thieves were breaking into the cars late Tuesday or early Wednesday with the aim of finding the keys to unlock the lugnuts in order to steal the expensive wheels.
Damaged were a 2009 Nissan Maxima, and three 2012 Infiniti G37 convertibles. Windows were smashed and door moldings damaged. In one instance, some words were scratched into the rear quarter panel of one of the Infinitis.
The damaged totaled $7,100, police said, and the incident is under investigation.
