The Westport Weston Family Y is offering a new, five-week swim-lesson program designed specifically for children with special needs.

The AquaFins therapeutic program is open to children 6 to 14 and will include two 40-minute sessions each week, the Y said.

Sessions begin on Wednesday, June 30, and conclude on Wednesday, July 30.

The program is open both to Y members and nonmembers, the Y said in a news release.

Participants will be split into two groups, and a swimming assessment of each child will be done before registration so he or she can be assigned to the appropriate group, according to the release.

The program will be on Mondays and Wednesdays in the Y's Brophy Pool. One group will meet from 1 to 1:40 p.m., the other from 1:45 to 2:25 p.m.

The cost is $160 for members, $185 for nonmembers.

Assessments may be scheduled and more information is available by emailing aquatic director Nicole Turechek at nturechek@westporty.org or by calling her at 203-226-8981, ext.128.

Private, one-on-one lessons also are available.
