EIGHTH GRADE AVENGES LAST YEAR’S PLAYOFF LOSS

The Fairfield Wildcats eighth grade team improved to 3-1 avenging last season's overtime playoff loss with a 21-7 win over New Canaan Red on Saturday.

Early in the second quarter, Joey Gulbin connected with Sam Davenport for a touchdown pass to give Fairfield a 6-0 lead.

The Wildcats started the third quarter with two quick scores. Sean Nelson took a screen pass 57 yards into the end zone. Gulbin then hit Davenport with a pass for the two point conversion.

During the next offensive series, James Bouque ran the ball up the middle 41 yards to put Fairfield on top 21-0.

The Wildcats defense was led by Tristan Breheny, Geo Whycoff, Evan Rose and Henry Bosken.

SEVENTH GRADE TAKES DOWN WESTPORT

The Seventh Grade Wildcats scored a 12-6 victory over the Westport Wreckers Saturday night.

Brendan Howard scored on the first play of the game with a 65-yard run behind great blocking by Jake Neff, Harry Chandler, TJ Finnegan, Lucas Mayer, Jaden Gold, Jack McKenna and Billy Grace. The defensive line, led by Matt Deloach, Travis Hayden and Art Belile, applied constant pressure on the Westport quarterback. R.J. Ihlefeld and Brendan Howard had interceptions with Howard returning his pick for the final score of the game.

SIXTH GRADE BLUE KEEPS ROLLING

The Wildcats Sixth Grade Blue team defeated Ridgefield 19-0 improving to 3-1 on the season.

Jack Andrews started off the scoring in the first quarter with a 80-yard touchdown run behind, the blocking of Ryan Voytas, Tommy Schindler, Connor Breheny, Luke Lesizza, Leo Randazzo, Mick Huban, Kevin Kuczo and Liam Ryan.

The offense was led by quarterback Ethan Righter who threw a 70 yard touchdown pass to Harrison Kieth to start the second half. Late in the game, Keith scored on a 80-yard touchdown run.

The defense was led by Kevin Howard, Ryan O'Connell, Zack Hathaway, Nick , Hios, Zack Hios and Cooper Dailey.

SIXTH GRADE BLACK WINS ON LATE SCORE

The Fairfield Sixth Grade Black team put together a late comeback, improving to 3-1 with a 7-6 win over Darien Blue.

Trailing 6-0 late in the game, quarterback Lucca Iannone connected with Michael Loya, who ran 45 yards after the catch to score the tying touchdown. Dom Bellora made the point after, putting the Wildcats ahead 7-6.

A stingy defense led by Wyatt Morgan, Paul Sussman, Chris Silk, Cole Curtin, Matt Marsden, Jack Martin Will Meers and Brayden Mazzoni helped to preserve the win.

FIFTH GRADE DOMINATES DARIEN BLUE

The Fairfield Wildcats Fifth Grade team combined a swarming defense with big plays on offense to top Darien Blue 19-6 at Ludlowe High School Saturday.

Will Klegg registered his team-leading third sack to go with his team-leading four tackles for a loss this season. Wally Wachiski led the Wildcats with 3½ tackles and Nat Moore added three more, while the defensive line of Klegg, Griffin Ramirez, William Imschweiler, and Brian Seiler applied constant pressure on the Blue Wave attack.

Offensively, the Wildcats were again led by Lucas

Coleman, who slashed the Darien defense for 63 rushing yards on 14 carries, including a 28-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Charlie Gulbin powered his way to 49 yards on 15 carries and also hauled in a 22-yard pass from Coleman to set up a Jack Plesser touchdown catch.
