To the Editor:
If we can have a referendum in New Milford on sewer expansion, why not a referendum on the library expansion?
The library expansion has been an issue for thirteen years.
If it had been accomplished anywhere during the past few years we would have a beautiful, well-needed expansion with more bang for the bucks.
Constant avoidance of a vote by the people and for the people of New Milford has resulted in an increase in overcrowding and a loss of opportunities to serve our ever-increasing population.
We need and should demand a referendum on the latest proposed expansion of our library.
The Green and its surrounding buildings and businesses are the "jewels in the crown," the library being one of the most important and beautiful of the gems that should be expanded, protected and supported.
I am an artist of water colors and acrylic. I visit the library two or three times a week. I listen to books on tape or music as I paint.
I look at videos some evenings and read books constantly for education about our world and for pleasure.
I also use the children's library as a reference for my commercial illustrations.
Library director Carl DeMilia and his staff of librarians do a marvelous job in very tight quarters.
Vote, town, vote for expansion. If not now, when?
