In the Fairfield Citizen's editorial, "Exploring the irony of Pequot Library's finances" (May 10), the paper seems to believe that Pequot Library has the ability to privately raise funds at the drop of a hat.

Using your numbers, the price of the tailgating ticket (for four) was $300, (not $350) or $60 per person which gave each attendee a few drinks and a pulled pork sandwich and a salad -- hardly lavish.

At this rate, the library will need to have 22 more of these events to fill the hole if it were to lose the Town of Fairfield's funding.

There is insufficient transparency into the accounting and reporting information provided by the Fairfield School District to warrant cutting student services.

Based on the most recent accounting released by the central office, teaching staff salary expense appears to be more than $1 million better than plan, as it was last year until fourth quarter "transfers."

Surrounding districts have multiple course levels and enrichment programs for their middle school students, as well as world language instruction in the earlier elementary grades.

Without offering multiple course levels or enrichment programs, how is our district setting its objectives to challenge our students to learn and develop to their fullest potential?

Without full accounting disclosure, the public is unable to make an informed evaluation of our district's efficiency and performance, and the board cannot make informed decisions on the education budget.

The format for community service often involves political involvement and political expressions by those participating.

Mr. Becker's quotation of disdain for Mr. Lesser is now Exhibit 1 for why John Q. Public so dislikes politics and keeps good people from public service.

First of all, contrary to Mr. Becker's assertion, Attorney Lesser is not Mike Tetreau's attorney.
