FAIRFIELD — Those who were raised in Fairfield or have lived in town for many years are probably quite familiar with its many streets within the town’s 31 square mile area. Most are pretty straightforward and easy to get to.

One “regal” section of town might get a bit confusing for newcomers but it will be worth the momentary disorientation once they finally get themselves on the correct royal path to the brick and wood colonial house at 520 Queens Grant Road. The confusion results, for those who don’t know the area well, in the fact that the same neighborhood also has a Queens Grant Drive and a Queens Grant Lane.

All three are lovely streets, and this is a great neighborhood in which to reside; far enough from town to enjoy the peace and quiet, close enough to town for convenience sake. Post Road (Route 1) and its many shops and restaurants are just under two miles away. The Southport train station is only eight minutes away. This particular house enjoys an extra bit of quietude and privacy because it sits near the end of a cul-de-sac on a property of just over two acres. The current owners say this casually elegant home feels “like a country retreat.” Although the end of the cul-de-sac meets up with the end of Morehouse Lane the two are not connected.

The house was built in 1995 and it has 4,986 square feet of living space, an open floor plan and abundance of natural light. It sits well back from the road on a property of just over two acres. The front of the property is marked by a stone wall. From the semi-circular driveway there are red brick and bluestone steps to the front entrance. The front door has sidelights and opens into the two-story foyer from which the formal living and dining rooms are accessed.

The living room has an onyx fireplace with a decorative mantel, paneling and millwork including fluted columns. This room also has wide chair railing, crown molding, and three double-hung windows topped with an arched transom. The same windows are found in the dining room, which also has wainscoting on the lower walls.

From the living room there are French doors into the family room, which has a wall of built-in bookshelves with a window seat and storage beneath it. A sliding door leads to a wood wrap-around deck with steps down to a flagstone patio. There is also a floor-to-ceiling red brick fireplace and a wet bar with a granite counter, wine refrigerator, and glass-front cabinetry. Both the living and family rooms have wide-planked white oak floors. Off the family room is an office with a vaulted ceiling, wall-to-wall carpeting, and doors on two opposite walls that access the large deck, one part of which has an awning for shade.
