Fairfield Country Day School Music Directors Mary Nelson and James Balmer last month sent a group of fifth-graders to represent their school and perform in the State Children's Honor Choir Festival.

The Festival was sponsored by the Connecticut Chapter of the American Choral Directors Association, of which the two directors are members.

Approximately 175 students in fourth, fifth, and sixth grade were chosen to sing in this festival. Their guest conductor was Henry Leck, conductor and founder of the Indianapolis Children's Choir.

The FCDS boys study under the guidance of Nelson and Balmer as members of the Fairfield Country Day School Fifth and Sixth Grade Choir. This choir includes all boys in both grades, averaging 60 to 65 singers on an annual basis. These singers study, prepare, and perform two-, three-, and four-part treble voice music, which includes many languages and styles from around the world. They sing in the same concerts with their Upper School counterparts in the FCDS Concert Choir.
