Bridgeport women's volleyball wins ECC title, earns automatic bid to NCAA Division II tournament

BRIDGEPORT -- The top-seeded Bridgeport women's volleyball team defeated third-seeded LIU Post 3-1 to capture the ECC title and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II championship tournament.

Ying Shen had 21 kills and six digs and was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player for the Purple Knights, who won 23-25, 25-18, 26-24 and lost 25-20.

Biljana Savic added 20 kills and 10 digs and Fernanda Silva had 46 assists and 10 digs for UB, while Lisa Delfs led the Pioneers (23-14) with 12 kills and nine blocks.

Bridgeport (25-4) claimed the ECC crown for the second time in the last four seasons. The pairings for the NCAA tournament will be announced tonight at 10 p.m. This year's appearance will be the fifth in a row for the Purple Knights.
