College basketball roundup: SHU women edge Manhattan

FAIRFIELD — Candice Leatherwood hit three of four free throws and Katherine Haines made a layup in the game’s final 70 seconds to break a tie and give the Sacred Heart women a 65-61 victory over Manhattan Wednesday night at the William H. Pitt Center.
The Pioneers (1-1) went on a 7-2 run in the fourth quarter, taking a 62-61 lead on two free throws by Leatherwood with 1:10 left. Haines’ layup gave Sacred Heart a 64-61 advantage with 31 seconds left and Leatherwood went 1-for-2 from the line with 14 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Pioneers.
Leatherwood finished the game with a team-high 23 points, Haines posted a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds and Erin Storck scored a career-high 17 points for Sacred Heart.
Kayla Grimme scored a game-high 32 points on 14-for-27 shooting and added 13 rebounds in the loss for the Jaspers (0-2).
JEFFERSON 64, UB WOMEN 53
PHILADELPHIA — The Purple Knights committed 21 turnovers and converted only 2 of 18 three-pointers and 5 of 13 free throw attempts in a road loss to the Rams.
Samnell Vonleh posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds and Morgen Caution added 11 points and nine rebounds in the loss for Bridgeport (1-2).
Jessica Kasminski scored a game-high 19 points, Alynna Williams scored 18 points and Rachel Day had 11 points in the win for Jefferson (3-0).
