MITEY MITE JR Giants 12 Stratford 24
The Stratford Giants beat the Fairfield Giants Mitey Mite Juniors 24-12 on Oct. 13 in Fairfield.
The Mitey Mite juniors were marching toward an equalizing touchdown in the fourth quarter by Stratford stripped the ball and ran it back for an insurance touchdown.
Sean O'Neil and Tyler Bartlett each had rushing TDs for the Giants, and Cooper Anderson had multiple carries for key yardage. Joe Macri, Jack Ransome, Nolan Childers and Trevor Scholz led the Giants' defense.
The Giants (2-4-1) head into their final game against Amity this weekend.
Mitey Mite Seniors lose
The Mitey Mite Seniors suffered a 32-0 loss to the Danbury Trojans last weekend. The Giants mustered five first downs the entire game. On defense, the Giants just could not find an answer for the Danbury overpowering offense.
Junior Pee Wees win
The Giants Junior Pee Wee team (5-2) extended their winning streak to four games by beating the West Haven Seahawks 14-6 on Oct. 12. Giants quarterback Nick Morris opened the scoring in the second quarter on a 10-yard bootleg around the left side.
West Haven struck for a 75-yard touchdown pass to tie the score at 6-6 with just under five minutes remaining. Great runs from Tommy O'Connell, Luke Martucci, AJ Montgomery, Dylan Fragameni, Mike Innaimo and Brendan Dunleavy, along with four pass completions from Morris to Jimmy Mockler, moved the ball 65 yards to the West Haven 3 yard line. With less than 2 minutes left, Moris snuck into the end zone behind the blocking of Owen Miller, Peter Strang, Robert DeLia, Alex Joliet and Hank Hackett. Grady Bartlett protected the lead on the final play with a tackle. The Giants secured a playoff spot as they head to Amity this weekend for their final regular season game.
Pee Wees beat Amity
The Pee Wee team improved its record to 6-1 for a berth in the Southern Connecticut Pop Warner playoffs with a 34-6 win over Amity on Oct. 13. The Giants put 27 points in the first half.
On the second play from scrimmage, Finn Duran took the handoff and scored on a 56-yard run. Aidan Wykoff scored the first of his two touchdowns on a 45 yard score. Brian Kiremidjian's PAT kick was good, and it was 14-0. On the ensuing kick-off, Duran recovered the ball, setting up Sam Roberto's 15-yard touchdown, his first of two on the day. Wykoff scored again, with Peter Schwartz scoring on the point after for a 27-6 Giants' lead.
In the second half, Sam Palmer powered his way in for point after to close out the scoring. Jackson Gilmore was praised by the Giants' coaching staff. Fairfield will travel to Seymour on Sunday to end the regular season.
Junior Midgets fall 28-8
The Fairfield Junior Midgets were unable to contain Amity's passing, dropping this last weekend's game 28-8.
Patrick Falvey, Andrew Marcello, Gage Dias and Kyle Tursi pushed visiting Amity but the Giants could not prevent two long scoring plays in the first half. Down 14-0 at the half, the Giants finally reached paydirt in the fourth quarter when Sam Keresey hit Ian Bartlett for a 20-yard scoring strike.
The Junior Midgets are idle this weekend and looking for a potential berth in the Bob Boss Bowl to close out their season.
