The Junior Pee Wees came up just a yard short against Stratford in the Southern Connecticut Pop Warner championship game on Nov. 9, losing by 12-6.

Fairfield went down by 12 points in the third quarter, but fought back with a long drive that culminated with a score at the beginning of the fourth quarter. On the next possession, the Giants' defense stopped Stratford on fourth down and took over the ball at the 49-yard line with five minutes to play in the game.

The Giants drove to the Stratford 15 before turning the ball over on downs on a failed fourth-and-1.

The Junior Pee Wees started the season at 1-2, battled back to make the playoffs and beat the No. 1 seed in Trumbull.

Pee Wees fall

The Giants' Pee Wees dropped their championship game to West Haven 26-16 two weekends ago. The Pee Wees scored on the opening drive to go up 8-0. The ensuing kick was returned for a score by West Haven, and the Pee Wees fumbled on the next series, giving up another TD to trail by 12-8.

The Fairfield Pee Wee's had a great year, scoring a record 236 points along the way.

Cheer competition

Fairfield Giants Junior Midget and Pee Wee cheer squads competed for New England Regional titles on Nov. 16 in Springfield, Mass.
