But Bargiello's ability to beat the clock Saturday gained him some press at least for one day.
The senior forward scored with just 1.4 seconds remaining in the second period for the top-ranked Jesuits' only goal in their 1-0 win over No. 2 Notre Dame-West Haven at Wonderland of Ice.
"It's nice to kind of pay them back," Bargiello said. "They're both really great players, and I usually feed them ... and it's just nice to get a big goal in a big game."
Prep's junior goalie Matt Beck, making his first start since Feb. 2, stopped 30 shots for his second shutout this year. The Jesuits improved to 16-0 and beat ND for the second time this year.
"I thought it was a lot of fun," Prep coach Matt Sather said. "It was very evenly matched."
Notre Dame's senior netminder Luc Amatruda stopped 32 shots, as the Green Knights had their five-game win streak snapped. ND fell to 12-3 and was shut out for the first time this season.
"We jokingly said we should play them 10 times per year instead of two," ND coach Bill Gerosa said. "We had one little hiccup there at the end ... the first guy that flinches loses, and today it was us."
With the seconds dwindling in the second, White possessed the puck behind the net, then centered it to the top of the crease. Bargiello's first try was stopped by Amatruda, but his second whack beat ND's goalie at 14:59.
"I think the important thing there was they didn't give up on the period," Sather said. "Those guys stayed aggressive and got a nice goal there."
The Green Knights were the aggressor in the first period, but Beck was up to the task, making 11 saves in the frame.
"It's always good when I can see the puck and get into it in the first period," Beck said. "I was able to feel the puck and see the puck well, and I think that helped me in this game."
Beck also got help from his goal post twice, first early when an ND shoot in hit Prep defender Billy D'Amore's stick and re-directed off the pipe before Beck smothered it.
"I got lucky," Beck said.
A re-direction on Darren Capobianco's point-shot late in the period also glanced off the post.
"The puck was bouncing a ton today," Beck said. "I'm just thankful (the post) was standing right there next to me to help me out today."
Beck also stopped ND forward Kyle Thibault twice in the frame on chances from point-blank range.
"He was great," Sather said of Beck. "We did a poor job, especially in the first period, of covering in front of the net. They had a couple of point-blank ... and (Beck) had to make some big saves."
