FAIRFIELD — Fairfield head coach Carl Rees was named MAAC men’s soccer Coach of the Year and defender Angus Hastings was named to the All-MAAC first team.

Rees led the Stags to an 11-4-2 overall record and a 7-1-2 league record, as the team captured the regular season championship and the top seed in the conference tournament. It’s the third MAAC Coach of the Year Award for Rees, who also won in 1998 and 2011.

Hastings earned his first All-MAAC first team award, after being a second-team selection as a sophomore and junior and MAAC All-Rookie team member as a freshman. During the regular season, Hastings scored four goals, including two game-winners, and had one assist.

Four Fairfield players were named to the All-MAAC second team: forwards Don-Junior Bobe and Ben Wignall, midfielder Matt McGlinchey and goalkeeper Gordon Botterill.

The Stags open MAAC tournament play on Thursday at home against Quinnipiac in a semifinal game at 7 at Lessing Field.
