Fairfield women fall to Iona

FAIRFIELD -- Damika Martinez scored a game-high 21 points while Joy Adams had 18 points and 10 rebounds as the Iona women's basketball team beat Fairfield 62-47 on Saturday at Alumni Hall.
Senior Katelyn Linney had 14 points for Fairfield (13-8, 7-3 MAAC) and moved into 17th all-time on the Stags' career scoring charts with 1,198 points. Junior Katie Cizynski saw her 11-game double-digit scoring streak halted as she finished with seven points, nine rebounds, and a career-high five assists.
Iona (11-10, 6-4) was red-hot in the first half, shooting 56 percent, building leads as many as 19 points, before Fairfield began chipping away.
The Gaels shot 52.2 percent (24-for-46) from the floor and 45.5 percent (5-for-11) from three-point range and outrebounded the Stags 37-27. The win was Iona's first over Fairfield since Feb. 1, 2010 and snapped a seven-game skid against the Stags.
