For one period, Connor Frawley saved the Fairfield co-op hockey team.

In the subsequent two periods, the rest of the Mustangs picked up the slack.

Kevin Robinson scored two third-period goals as Fairfield blitzed Milford co-op 5-0 on Monday at Milford Ice Pavilion.

"We're like pushing a car down the hill," Fairfield coach Mark Pettorini said. "We're slow at the beginning; second period, we got a little more motivation, and by the third period we were flying."

Conor Scharlop scored once and added an assist, and Dan Silvestri scored as Fairfield (5-4) won its third straight.

"We're playing well, we're scoring goals; defense looked good today," Pettorini said. "I couldn't be any happier."

John DePalma stopped 21 shots for Milford, which hd its three-game win streak snapped.

"They played a great game," Milford coach Sal Follo said. "I don't think we really played our `A' game."

Frawley made seven of his 20 saves in the first period, many of which were high-quality stops. Fairfield's senior goalie robbed Milford's senior winger Rob Buskey three times, including once on a breakaway late in the frame.

"I just knew I had to be patient," Frawley said. "He went to my glove side, and I just snagged it."

"Frawley definitely kept us in the game," Pettorini said.

Matthew Larouche's individual effort helped put Fairfield on top at 7:28 of the first. The senior center skated along the boards, stick-handling through three Milford defenders, before beating DePalma to put Fairfield ahead.

"One of our seniors, he was all by himself, it was a 1-on-3, and all he did was drive to the net," Pettorini said. "It was a good, hard-working goal."

"They took advantage of our breakdowns," Follo said.

Scharlop also tallied a highlight-reel goal. The junior defender skated through two Milford defenders, then beat DePalma through the legs, boosting Fairfield's lead to 2-0.

"Coach says never go to the off-hand side, I do it anyway," Scharlop said. "I got on my backhand, and ... came back and hit the five-hole."

Robinson's goal at 3:47 of the third lifted Fairfield's advantage to 3-0.

"Second and third period we kicked it into gear," Scharlop said. "That third goal really took the wind out of their sails."
