Ludlowe's Slobin-Doyle win Class L doubles crown

The Fairfield Ludlowe boys tennis doubles team of juniors Alex Slobin and Connor Doyle won the CIAC Class L championship on Wednesday at Yale University.
They were seeded first and won five matches, defeating New Canaan's Andrew Penchuk, a senior, and freshman Alex Merjian, the No. 2 seed, in the finals by 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Fairfield Warde senior Ted Berkowitz was eliminated in the semifinals of the singles competition by Scott Rubenstein, of Hand, losing 6-4, 6-3. Berkowitz, who won four matches, was seeded No. 2, Rubenstein No. 3.
Hand won the team championship with 25 points and the Mustangs were runners-up with 21. Ludlowe and Wilton finished in a tie for third with 19 points. Hand and Warde shared in the team title in 2013, with the Falcons placing third.
