Penalties doom Sound Tigers

Adirondack scored a goal three seconds after a power play expired, then added three power-play goals to beat the Sound Tigers 5-1 Wednesday at Glens Falls (N.Y.) Civic Center.
"It was one of those games where we didn't compete well for pucks," Bridgeport coach Scott Pellerin said. "We turned pucks over too much. We didn't play our physical game."
Former Sound Tigers goalie Scott Munroe made 22 saves for the Phantoms, including one on a Brandon DeFazio breakaway in the third that would have cut the Adirondack lead to 4-2.
The Sound Tigers had killed 15 power plays in a row after Eric Tangradi scored on Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's first three advantages Friday.
But back-to-back penalties on defensemen Aaron Ness (holding) and Marc Cantin (cross-checking) gave the Phantoms a long five-on-three. They made it 2-0 on a slapper by Sean Couturier, son of former New Haven Nighthawk Sylvain Couturier.
Brayden Schenn scored seven minutes later, and Tye McGinn scored on a deflection in the third period.
"We didn't get that one extra blocked shot, clear, faceoff win we needed to kill the penalties," Pellerin said.
Jason Akeson, last year's leading Phantoms scorer who'd begun the season in the ECHL, had the primary assist on the first three Adirondack goals.
The Sound Tigers' Jon Landry scored on a power play to cut the lead to 2-1. Nino Niederreiter's assist gives him a nine-game scoring streak, Bridgeport's longest in almost three years.
Bridgeport will take Thursday off for Thanksgiving.
It plays Friday night against the Connecticut Whale at home, with Sacred Heart meeting Princeton beforehand at 4 p.m.
