SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- If this is how Kevin Poulin goes out as a Bridgeport goalie, it was not the most memorable evening for the Sound Tigers.

At least, not for the hockey.

Bridgeport fell back to .500 with Friday's 5-2 loss to the Springfield Falcons at MassMutual Center, a game that turned into both a gong show in the third period and Bridgeport's fourth loss in a row.

"It's over," Poulin said. "The next game, whether it's here or up there, it's a new day."

The New York Islanders waived goalie Rick DiPietro on Friday. Poulin said he has not been told where he's going Saturday; Newsday reported the Islanders plan to call him up. Bridgeport coach Scott Pellerin wasn't revealing his plans for Saturday's goaltending tandem.

Poulin made 26 saves and was screened on a couple of Springfield's goals.

The Falcons took the lead in the first on Cody Goloubef's goal through a screen -- "I think there were 14 guys in front," Poulin quipped -- after some sustained Bridgeport pressure. They added two in the second and two more in the third.

"We had some opportunities, special teams, and they got two or three through screens," Pellerin said.

"Pouls made some unbelievable saves."

Kirill Kabanov and Jon Landry scored in the final 2:10 to break up Curtis McElhinney's bid for a Springfield-record eighth shutout.

Tempers erupted in the third. The Falcons appeared unhappy about a fight between their Jake Hansen and Bridgeport's Brett Gallant (Gallant was injured in the fight).

Dalton Smith went after Bridgeport's Nino Niederreiter soon after, sparking a line brawl. Dalton Prout later took a run at Brandon DeFazio and the Sound Tigers' Nathan McIver then went after Jonathan Audy-Marchessault.

Seven players were ejected, and Bridgeport played the last 10 minutes with three defensemen. The official sheet gave Bridgeport 147 penalty minutes, though it appeared to be missing a minor that was announced at the time.
