Fairfield Prep's all-SCC and all-state goalkeeper now has a new moniker.

Will Steiner, who led the Jesuits to their first state championship match, was named a Region I All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced Monday.

"It's kind of surreal," Steiner said. "I'm just really excited about it."

Steiner was one of three Connecticut netminders to gain the honor. Staples keeper James Hickock and South Windsor's Eric Hintz also gained Region I honors.

The Villanova University bound goalkeeper was part of a Prep unit which conceded just 10 goals in 24 games.

Steiner admitted that gaining All-American status was a possibility this year.

"Every year you set individual goals and I knew if I played my best, it was achievable," he said. "I set it as a goal and I was happy that it happened."
