A mist turning to a light drizzle caused the suspension of the non-conference boys tennis match between visiting Weston and Fairfield Prep Friday afternoon at the Walsh Athletic Center courts on the campus of Fairfield University. No matches had been completed among the three that had started a little after 4 p.m.

Of the three matches in progress, Prep was leading one, Weston another, with a tie in the third.

Jesuits' coach Harold Prather said he had reached a tentative agreement with Weston coach Gary Meunier to resume play on Thursday, May 22. But that is unofficial until the athletic directors at both schools approve that date.

Play began with an intermittent mist, but the mist became persistent then intensified into a light drizzle. Players were beginning to slip and informed their coaches of how they were losing solid footing. Some were sliding and a few fell. The coaches had a brief conversation, then Meunier told his players to finish off their games but not start any others. Competition ended at approximately 4:30 p.m.

When action resumes, it will not be a restart. Matches will start with the scores stood when play was halted.

At No. 3 singles, Prep junior Emil Friis was ahead of Weston junior Eric Nalbandian 4-1 in the first set. At No. 4 singles, Trojans junior Eric Benninghoff was leading Jesuits 10th-grader Jon Konecny 5-2. At No. 3 doubles, the scores was 3-3 between Prep's Jack Caserta and Frank Fortunati, both freshmen, and Weston's Ishan Mirchandani, a sophomore, and Charles Gosnell, a ninth-grader.

Matches at Nos. 1 and 2 singles and Nos. 1 and 2 doubles had yet to begin on Friday.

Prep, of the SCC, entered with an overall record of 7-3. Weston, of the SWC, came in with an 8-3 overall record. Weston was the CIAC Class S runner-up in 2013.

Prep began play Friday on a four-match winning streak; Weston had won three in a row.
