The Pioneers took down two-time defending NEC champion LIU Brooklyn 77-73 and then topped St. Francis (N.Y.) 66-65 during the league's opening weekend. ... Central returns home after a 1-1 trip to Western Pennsylvania, where it lost to previously winless Saint Francis (Pa.) 67-60 but rebounded to beat Robert Morris 77-70. ... SHU's Shane Gibson is coming off his 40th career 20-point game, which is twice of that by the next closest NEC player (Julian Boyd, LIU). ... Pioneers sophomore point guard Phil Gaetano handed out 19 assists against just four turnovers in the wins over LIU Brooklyn and St. Francis. ... Central is 13-3 at home against SHU since the Pioneers joined the NEC.

Both stats were career highs. ... 6-2 junior Katie Cizynski (12.0 ppg, 7.9 rpg) leads Fairfield statistically. ... Siena lost a pair of heartbreakers in its first two MAAC games this season. Canisius beat Siena 65-62 on a buzzer-beater from half court. Two days later, Niagara used a 22-6 run to down Siena 70-62 in overtime. ... Siena is shooting a 31.7 percent from the floor, eighth worst in the nation.
