Wednesday's game against Taft School had some sentimental value to Greenwich Academy hockey coach Moe Tarrant.

Tarrant coached against his daughter, Shannon, who guides Taft's program, on Wednesday. Behind a strong first period, Greenwich Academy prevailed, skating past host Taft, 4-1.

"It's a bittersweet win of course, because I went up against my daughter's team," Tarrant said. "My wife said she'll go home unhappy either way. We had a couple of tough losses lately, so this was a good win."

The Gators (11-6) scored three goals the first 7 minutes, 38 seconds of the first period. Caitlin Buckley opened the scoring 2:19 into the opening period and Sarah Kaplan tallied with 8:53 remaining, putting GA on top, 2-0. Eva Rosencrans scored less than a minute later and Dani Freedman added a third-period goal for the victors. Senior Pam Schulman had an assist on all four GA goals.

"Taft is a Division I team so this was a huge game for us," Tarrant said. "Schulman played an amazing game."

BOYS BASKETBALL

Sam Fraser scored a game-high 23 points for the Brunswick School basketball team, which used a strong defensive effort to beat visiting Hopkins School, 65-56, on Wednesday.

Utilizing their aggressive full court press, the Bruins registered 20 steals and jumped out to a 23-point lead. Fraser had three assists, while guard Ryan Hardin totaled six steals for Brunswick, which raised its record to 11-7.

The Bruins will host Rye Country Day School Thursday in a rematch of Monday's game, which they won, 78-54.

BOYS SWIMMING

Greenwich High School completed an undefeated regular season, cruising to a 133-53 win over visiting Wilton Wednesday.

The Cardinals won 10 of 12 events en route to improving to a perfect 11-0. Sophomores Ed Moss and Thomas Dillinger were each double winners. Moss won the 50-yard freestyle in :21.69 and took first in the 100 freestyle (:49.67). Dillinger touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle (1:46.06) and won the 500 freestyle (4:49.10). Jeff Aselin (diving, 270.05), Alex Lewis (100 backstroke, :55.60) and Tim Agro (100 breaststroke, 1:04.37) each had first-place finishes for the Cards.

Andrew Bologna placed second in the one-meter diving event (267.05) for GHS, which swept the relay events.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Greenwich Academy won its third straight Wednesday, edging visiting Millbrook School at home, 30-26.

Senior center Galen Hughes powered the Gators offensively, scoring 19 of the team's 30 points. With the win, the Gators upped their record to 5-11. They will visit Ethel Walker School on Saturday.
