Elks Soccer Shoot set for Sept. 29
The local Elks lodge will conduct its annual Soccer Shoot for boys and girls up to age 13. Soccer players will compete separately to decide winners who will advance to the next level at the district finals. The contest will be held at the Fairfield Elks Lodge, 452 Brookside Drive, Fairfield, on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m.
Contestants will kick at diminishing-width goals from 48 inches down to 17 inches with the score for each increasing. There will be a boys and girls winner in four age-group divisions. Each contestant will shoot three times at each of the five goals for score. The ball must enter entirely through the goal for the shot to count as a score. The youngest group will shoot from a distance of 15 feet from the goal, older age groups from 18 feet.
The district competion will be held at the Bridgeport Elks Lodge the following on Oct. 5. Winners there advance to state finals and finally to New England championships.
The Fairfield Soccer Shoot is open to residents of Fairfield, Redding, Easton, Weston and Westport.
