The local Elks lodge will conduct its annual Soccer Shoot for boys and girls up to age 13. Soccer players will compete in four age-group divisions to decide winners who will advance to the district finals next Saturday. The contest will be held at the Fairfield Elks Lodge, 452 Brookside Drive, Fairfield, on Sunday at 1 p.m.
Contestants will kick at diminishing-width goals from 48 inches down to 17 inches with the score for each increasing. There will be a boys and girls winner each in younger than 8 competition, younger than 10, younger than 12 and younger than 14. Each contestant will shoot three times at each of the five goals for their scores. The youngest group will shoot from a distance of 15 feet, older players from 18 feet.
District competion will be held at the Bridgeport Elks Lodge. Winners there advance to state finals and New England championships.
On Sept. 15, Shaileen Tracy, of Fairfield, made a hole-in-one at Okemo Valley Golf Club in Ludlow, Vt. Tracy aced the 14th hole from the gold tee for a 132-yard drive into the cup. She used her 9 wood. Tim Tracy and Ray Andrews witnessed the shot, said Bonnie MacPherson, the club's public relations director.
