Warde's McKeown

earns 2 awards

Fairfield Warde football co-captain Colin McKeown, an All-FCIAC East offensive line selection, earned two postseason honors last month. The 6-foot-4 inch, 290-pound senior was named first team All-State by the Connecticut High School Coaches Association as well as to the 2013 Walter Camp All-Connecticut team.

McKeown was one of 30 players named first-team All-State by the coaches; he was one of 25 selections by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Fairfield Prep senior linebacker Nick Crowle, of Milford, was named first team by each organization, too.

McKeown was invited to the 47th annual Walter Camp Football Foundation Weekend, featured by a Breakfast of Champions event in New Haven.

McKeown started on the defensive line as well and was one of the Mustangs' leading tacklers.

"Colin was an `old school,' hard-nosed kid that loved to play football," Mustangs coach Duncan DellaVolpe said. "He started for us as a sophomore and continued to get better each year. If we had a little more depth upfront this year, he could have played on just one side of the ball. I believe he would have drawn major attention to his skills as an offensive lineman.

"He worked hard to become one of the better lineman in the area and state, while maturing and becoming a very good leader as one of our captains. Colin's full potential (as an offensive lineman) has not yet been reached. And he will be a great addition to any (college) program he joins," DellaVolpe said.
