Ludlowe's Yates wins gold at junior rowing nationals

Fairfield Ludlowe senior Cameron Yates and a partner from Westport captured first place in the Men's Double Scrulls race at the US Youth Rowing Nationals last week in Sacramento.

Competing for the Saugatuck Rowing Club, Yates and Staples High School senior Jeff Monahan paced the field with a time of 7:13.52. Right behind them at 7:14.63 was a scull from Rye, N.Y.

The Yates-Monahan boat was one of 11 from the Saugatuck club in Westport that qualified for nationals.

Yates will continue his rowing career next year as Cornell University, while Monahan will row for Columbia University.
