Staples girls basketball holds off Warde

Led by 17 points from senior guard Nicole Bukovsky and 13 points from Erica Stein, the Staples High girls basketball team held off Fairfield Warde 46-39 on Friday evening at home.

The Wreckers were ahead 30-20 at halftime, but saw their lead trimmed to two points heading into the fourth quarter. Warde's Mollie Kerrigan tied it 33-33 early in the fourth, but the Wreckers outscored the Mustangs 13-6 the rest of the way.

Kerrigan led the Mustangs with 13 points, while Tiara Fountain scored nine.

Staples improved to 6-10 overall. Warde fell to 7-9.
