UB women's volleyball team gains ECC title game

BRIDGEPORT -- The Bridgeport women's volleyball team swept Dowling, 3-0, in the ECC semifinals Friday night at the Hubbell Gymnasium.

Ying Shen had 17 kills and six digs and Fernanda Silva added 30 assists and seven digs for the Purple Knights (23-4), who won 25-23, 25-18 and 25-17.

Bridgeport will play LIU Post for the league title tonight at 5.

Taylor McBeth and Martina Santia each added three service points and eight digs for the Purple Knights, while Bethany Shepard led Dowling with 17 kills and eight digs.

Also, sophomore hitters Biljana Savic and Shen were selected All-ECC first-team picks in women's volleyball. This marks the second straight season that Savic, who leads the Purple Knights in kills per set at 3.63, has received first-team honors. Shen, a four-time ECC Player of the Week selection this season, is second on the team in kills per set at 3.46 and has a .327 attack percentage. Also receiving All-ECC honors was sophomore middle blocker Larissa Oliviera, who was a second-team pick. Oliviera leads the team in blocks at 1.19 per set.
