The Fairfield Warde field hockey team just keeps on rolling.
Erin Hines scored four goals and Emily Allen had three assists as the Mustangs blitzed Westhill 6-1 on Monday night at Tetreau/Davis Field.
"It's great to come out and score some goals here," Hines said. "Our chemistry this year has improved so much."
Hines added an assist and her sister Megan also assisted on a goal. Kelly Milicia scored once and Lindsey Adams added a goal and an assist as the Mustangs won their second straight and remained unbeaten in their last four games.
"We're doing well," Warde coach Jodie Shannon said. "I think once our momentum starts going for us, it starts going in a positive direction."
Westhill sophomore Emma Hart scored the Vikings' lone goal. Westhill fell to 0-5-0-1
Warde outshot Westhill 13-3, and converted on two of its five penalty corners. The penalty corner goals came just 57 seconds apart, with Adams' notching the first over Katherine Kelly's shoulder, giving the Mustangs a 5-1 lead.
"Our corners have been strong," Shannon said.
Milicia put the Mustangs on the board first, 20 minutes in, when she received a pass from Erin Hines in the middle, then swept a shot by Kelly, giving Warde a 1-0 edge.
Hines' first goal from Allen came just 39 seconds later, putting Warde ahead 2-0 at halftime.
"We've been playing together since we first started playing," Erin Hines said. "Emily's a great player and she always knows where to find me."
The Vikings rebounded, scoring the second half's first goal. Warde's defense allowed Hart to walk to the middle of the field, then the sophomore forward blasted a shot by Warde goalie Katie Stepsis, cutting Warde's lead to 2-1.
Hart's goal was the first Warde had allowed since Sept. 21, a span of more than 212 minutes.
"I don't think it was the strongest shot," Shannon said. "It's just another lesson for us to build on."
But Erin Hines scored the next two goals, both from Allen -- including one just 24 seconds after Hart's-- increasing Warde's lead to three.
"We play so well as a team," Allen said. "I absolutely love it."
