Chamber of COmmerce hosting annual meeting, Hall of Fame awards

The 118th Annual Meeting of the Chamber of Commerce of Northwest Connecticut, Inc. will take place on April 12 at 11:30 a.m. at Chatterley’s Banquet Facility, 371 Pinewoods Road, Torrington.

This year’s keynote speaker will be The Honorable Ned Lamont, the 89th Governor of the State of Connecticut.

The 2019 inductees into the Chamber Hall of Fame will be Karen Kuhl of Geer Village Senior Community and Paul Patch, Associate Member and retired from O&G Industries, Inc. Both have contributed countless hours of their time to our Chamber and deserve our upmost praise.

Kuhl has been a member of the Northwest Connecticut Chamber since 1998. She has served as a member of the Hospitality Committee for close to 10 years and has assisted at countless events greeting attendees and volunteering to assist the event host. She has also been a member of the Marketing & Communications Committee since its inception in 2015. She has volunteered as a Chamber Ambassador and took over the co-chair position in 2018. Following the merger of the Canaan Chamber of Commerce with the Northwest Connecticut Chamber, Karen facilitated meetings and events at Geer Village and now serves as the Canaan Liaison on the Chamber board.

Kuhl has volunteered countless years as a reader in the Chamber’s Read Aloud program and is a regular participant in the Chamber’s Business Showcase and past Expo events. Along with her co-workers at Geer, she has hosted many Health Council meetings, Business with Breakfast and Business After Hours events.

Patch retired from O&G Industries, Inc. in 2017 after 36 years of service. He has served on the Chamber Board since becoming a director in 2007. His rendition of the National Anthem has been heard at each Annual Meeting of the Chamber since 2007. In 2011, Paul was elected to the Executive Committee as vice-chairman of the board. He served in that capacity until 2015, when he was elected Chairman of the Board.

He served as chairman of the board until 2017 and since then has volunteered as the Treasurer of the Chamber Board of Directors. In addition, he has served on the Northwest Connecticut Chamber Education Foundation’s Board of Directors since its inception in 2007 and on its Executive Committee since 2015.

During the business portion of the Annual Meeting, members will recognize those retiring from the Board of Directors, and elect the directors who have been nominated to serve a three-year term.

The retiring members of the Board of Directors are Joyce Muse, Altek Electronics, Inc., Paul Samele, Jr., Chatterley’s Banquet Facility, and Margret Warner, Litchfield Bancorp.

The individuals to be elected to the Board of Directors are: Christine Bascetta-Gath, Litchfield Bancorp; Robert Geiger, Town of Winchester; Maria Gonzalez, New Opportunities, Inc.; Kathleen Katrenya, Torrington Savings Bank; Antonio Ponte, Jr., Thomaston Savings Bank; Michael Rooke, Ph.D., Northwestern Connecticut Community College; Erick Royer, Stepcraft, Inc.; John Seagrave, Barron Financial Group, LLC; and, Jacque Williams, Jacque Williams Entertainment.
