The Town Players of New Canaan's 64th season will open with Tony Award-winning playwright Ken Ludwig's clever whodunit, Postmortem.

The cast is intrigued with Ludwig's script and loves the show. And why not? Except for Aunt Lilly all the characters are actors. In the role of Bobby Carlyle, a leading man and debonair man-about-town, will be Fairfield resident Bob Filipowich -- who appeared as Buddy in the Town Players' production of Follies this summer. His fellow six cast members are John Thompson, Cami Shore, Kimberly Lowden, Marcia Cummings Vinci, David Savo and Pam Toroyan.

"For mystery lovers who like a good plot and snappy dialogue, Postmortem abounds with enough twists to keep you guessing till the very end," said Sheri Dean, who is directing her seventh suspense thriller for the Town Players. Replete with complex technical effects, an ingenious set designed by Donna Glen to approximate William Gillette's eccentric living room and gorgeous 1920s costumes created by Deborah Runestad, Postmortem will be performed at the handicapped accessible Powerhouse Performing Arts Center in Waveny Park, New Canaan on Fridays and Saturdays, Nov. 5 and 6 and 12 and 13, at 8 p.m., with Sunday matinee on Nov. 7, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors (age 62). Postmortem takes place at the Hadlyme home of actor manager, playwright William Gillette, famed for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. He has invited the cast of his latest Broadway revival of Sherlock Holmes for a relaxing weekend at his castle overlooking the Connecticut River.

In reality, Gillette is determined to find out if Maude, his deceased fiancée who died exactly one year ago, committed suicide or was murdered by one of his cast members. Ludwig trots out all the classic murder mystery devices as Gillette plans to solve the case himself à la Sherlock Holmes. This is a show parents and grandparents can bring 10 year olds to.

A display of Donna Glen's photos of Gillette Castle will be mounted in the Powerhouse Lobby for the run of the show.
