Three of the most prolific rock guitarists in the world will present a historic night of music at Fairfield Theatre Company on Friday, Jan. 19. The show, called “Masters of the Telecaster,” takes place at FTC’s StageOne.
“Masters of the Telecaster” features Jim Weider (The Band), Snowy White (Pink Floyd) and G.E. Smith (Roger Waters). Audience members can expect lots of blues, roots, and rock ’n’ roll.
All three artists have numerous claims to fame. For example, Smith also was Hall & Oates’ lead guitarist and the musical director of “Saturday Night Live,” not to mention lead guitarist for Bob Dylan’s band in the late 1980s.
White, known for such hits as “Bird of Paradise,” played with Thin Lizzy. Meanwhile, Weider has performed with such artists as Keith Richards and Bob Weir; he also played with the Levon Helm Band until Helm’s death in 2012.
This trio comes together to play tunes from Roy Buchanan, Little Richard, Steely Dan, Lee Dorsey, Sam Cooke and more, according to a news release. Rounding out the rhythm section are Lincoln Schleifer on bass and Connecticut drummer Josh Dion (Buddy Guy, Los Lonely Boys, Eric Johnson).
Weider and Smith will also appear in “Masters of the Telecaster” shows at The Kate (The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center) in Old Saybrook on Saturday, Feb. 3, and at Daryl’s House Club in Pawling, N.Y., on Friday, March 2. White will be replaced at those two concerts by Jon Herington, who has his own band and has toured with such artists as Steely Dan, Bette Midler and Boz Scaggs. Dion will be replaced at The Kate by Randy Ciarlante.
