The nonprofit Near & Far Aid Association’s multievent fundraiser to fight poverty takes place Friday, May 6, in Fairfield and Westport, kicking off with a breakfast with international interior designer Anthony Baratta.

The organization raises funds for “the area’s best affordable housing providers and the most innovative job training programs that build paths to self sufficiency for the poor,” according to its mission statement.

A Designer Breakfast, featuring a presentation by Baratta, will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Patterson Club; tickets are $75. Baratta has been featured in such magazines as Architectural Digest, World of Interiors, House Beautiful, House & Garden and Veranda. He will sign copies of his books with William Diamond: “Diamond Baratta Design” (Bullfinch Press) and “All American” (Pointed Leaf Press).

The Designer House Tour offers participants “an extraordinary opportunity inside a curated selection of exclusive properties” in Fairfield, Fairfield’s Southport section and Westport, the organization said. “The homes celebrate each moment of life, the important occasions and the simple, everyday events surrounded by imagination, beauty, style and vision.”

The self-drive tour runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; maps are provided with tickets ($65 in advance; $75 day of tour).

New this year is an Afternoon Tea Party, with continuous service between 1 and 3 p.m. at a private Fairfield home, catered by Royal Tea Co., featuring “a dainty, bountiful array of tea sandwiches and delicious freshly baked confections, as well as a signature tea blend,” according to Near & Far. Visitors also will have access to the home’s terraces and garden areas. $100 tickets include the tea and tour; $35 for the tea party only.
