“The Judge” Leading an all-star cast, Robert Downey Jr. is Hank Palmer, a successful and jaded attorney who returns home when his mother dies. While back home, Hank finds that his father (Robert Duvall), a judge whom he can’t stand, is being accused of first-degree murder. He’s has to set aside his differences and defend him. “No Good Deed” At a parole hearing, Colin Evans (Idris Elba) is turned down because of his history of rage and violence. On his way back to prison, he escapes and starts a new life. But the violence still lingers and reappears when he stops to use the phone at the home of Terry (Taraji P. Henson) and her two children. Terry is left with no other choice than to do what she must to protect her family.

In focus: “Boyhood”

Boys will be boys, and director Richard Linklater captures that in this groundbreaking film, which he shot over a period of 12 years — from 2002 to 2013. All with the same cast. Mason (Ellar Coltrane) and his sister Samantha’s (Lorelei Linklater — yes, the director’s daughter) lives are chronicled from childhood to adulthood. Patricia Arquette and Ethan Hawke play their parents. Available on Blu-ray, DVD and streaming.
