Here’s what sticks in your head when you go to this fun joint on Meriden-Waterbury Turnpike in the Plantsville area of town: It’s a favorite of motorcycle riders but friendly, it has a patio deck for outdoor dining and it serves great whole fried clams. Over the years, we’ve enjoyed the larger order that easily feeds two clam lovers.
A local favorite, Lenny’s served us a platter the other day on their sunlit deck after the server noted the no-fries order was priced the same as the platter (about $28.50). The clams were sizable where some other locals have been small this year.
After a Hammonasset visit, this Madison place fits the bill nicely. Management made a nice pivot during COVID to more outdoor dining tables and service folks in the eating areas around the tight parking lot. Our last visit wasn’t great (small clams, messed-up order) but generally it’s a reliable thumbs-up.
Saybrook Fish House in Rocky Hill and Canton. A local favorite with thick chowder and decent prices. Click here.
