The Newtown girls basketball team will return to the court Wednesday night at home against Masuk. It will be the first varsity game played by the high school since last Friday's tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary school, which left 28 people dead.

The Nighthawks, the defending Class LL champions, will debut their "Threes for Sandy Hook" fund-raising effort. For every 3-pointer made at all levels in the program, the teams will donate $3 to the families affected by the Sandy Hook shootings. Bike maker Cannondale will match the contributions.

"It's been difficult," Nighthawks coach Jeremy O'Connell said. "I've been amazed how the community has been able to rally around each other."
