Warde, Luldowe fare will in FCIAC track meet

The FCIAC recently held its annual league championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven and on the girls' side, Warde placed seventh overall while Ludlowe finished ninth among the 14 teams competing.

On the boys' side, Ludlowe placed ninth out of the 14 teams that competed.

In the girls' 55-meter dash, Warde's Stephanie Sheehan took third overall with a time of 7.66 seconds. In the preliminaries, Sheehan clocked in at 7.65, again good for third place while her Mustangs teammate, Hannah Keating, placed 16th with a time of 8.0 seconds.

Ludlowe's Cassandra Factora finished 16th in the 300-meter dash with a time of 47.15 seconds while in the 600-meter run, Ludlowe's Sullie Diamond took 13th with a time of 1:51.33. In the 1000-meter run, the Falcons' Brianna Auray placed fifth overall with a time of 3:13.73, while Warde's Carly Pavoni finished eighth (3:22.94) and Julia Eustace was 12th in 3:26.26 and Ludlowe's Francesca Barucci took 14th in 3:26.81.

In the girls' 1600-meter run, Ludlowe's Kelly Walsh finished 11th, in 5:40.68, just ahead of Warde's Olivia Spinosa who finished 12th (5:43.09). Warde's Rory Mappa finished 19th in 5:55.11. In the 3,200-meter run, Warde's Gabi Galletta finished second in 11:53.48 with Mustangs teammate Sarah Radziewicz fifth in 12:06.20. Ludlowe's Keegan Simonsen placed 11th in 12:17.00, Warde's Amanda Kuzco took 15th (12:32.28), Warde's Molly Davidson was 17th in (12:50.82) and Ludlowe's Anna Letherwood was 21st in 13:03.56.

Sheehan finished second in the 55-meter hurdles, timing in at 8.79 seconds. In the 4x200-meter relay, the Ludlowe team of Cassandra Factora, Rachel Hurst, Emma Koether and Miranda Rosenfeld, took third in 1:50.09, while Warde took 11 th (1:57.94) behind Sara Burkhart, Hannah Keating, Tianna Barr and Kayla Yaverski. In the 4x400-meter relay. Ludlowe -- Koether, Rosenfeld, Factora and Hurst -- placed second in 4:12.92 with Warde (Elizabeth Buhrendorf, Carly Pavoni, Sara Burkhart, Hannah Dougherty) finishing 10th in 4:30.24.

In the 4x800-meter relay, the Ludlowe squad of Sullie Desmond, Kelly Walsh, Brianna Auray and Francesci Barucci took sixth in 10:16.36 with Warde's team of Roey Mappa, Hannah Dougherty, Quinn Igran and Olivia Spinosa placing eighth in 10:39.30. In the 1,600-meter spring relay, Warde -- Kayla Yaverski, Quinn Igram, Hannah Dougherty and Tianna Barr, placed eighth in 4:42.93.

Ludlowe's Annie Funk placed eighth in the high jump (4-feet, 8-inches), while in the long jump, Warde's Stephanie Mills, Stephanie Sheehan and Julia Knorr finished eighth, ninth and 11th respectively.

In the boys' 300-meter dash, Ludlowe's Brett Williams placed ninth in 38.47 seconds while the Falcons' Jake Duncan finished third in the 600-meter run in 1:25.66, while Warde's Alexander Petrecca (1:28.04), Charles Keiffer (1:28.63) and Jackson Stearns (1:31.52) finished 10 th, 11th and 19th, respectively. In the boys' 100-meter run, Warde's Matthew Wojnoski took 17th (3:02.44) and Jackson Gallati took 18th (3:02.57).

In the 1,600-meter run, Ludlowe's Ben Ertel finished 14th in 4:46.48, Ludlowe's Joey Ambury was 15th in 4:49.42 and Aren Heitmann took 16th in 4:51.09. In the 3,200-meter run, Ludlowe's David Bates finished 16th in 10:11.48 while Warde's Will Brisman took 18th in 10:19.68 and Warde's Alex Mocarski finished 26th in 10:30.33.

In the preliminaries for the 55-meter hurdles, David Harvey of Warde was 11th (9.25) and Ludlowe's Brendan Gutierrez was 14th (9.64) and Luldowe's Jason Lee was 16th (9.82). In the boys' 4x200-meter relay, Ludlowe -- Brendan Gutierrez, Sean Gutierrez, Michael McArdle, Brett Williams -- took fifth in 1:37.57, with Warde -- Ben Harvey, Biani Noubissi, Ryan Rumsey, Jason Deck -- finishing 10th in 1:46.19.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the Ludlowe team of Daniel Leto, Mike McArdle, Jake Duncan, Zach Kenton took fourth in a time of 3:36.38, while Warde (Alex Petrecca, Jackson Stearns, David Harvey, Andrew Calalmari) finished 11th in 3:54.73. In the 4x800-meter relay, David Bates, Ben Ertel, Zach Kenton, Dan Leto led Ludlowe to a fourth place finish (8:29.74). Warde, behind Will Brisman, Joey Ciccarelli, Chris Rumsey and Matt Wojnoski, took eighth in 9:07.05.

PREP

IThe Southern Connecticut Conference also held its conference track championships and Fairfield Prep placed 14th in the team competition.

In the boys' 100-meter run, Prep's George Crist finished fourth overall with a time if 2:42.35, while in the 1,600-meter run, Drew Thompson placed sixth in 4:41.02 and Sheldon McKinnon took 13th in 5:06.50. Thompson also fared well in the 3,200-meter run, placing 12th overall with a time of 10:24.30. Chris Nilsson finished 17 th in thr 3,200, timing in at 10:54.63. In the 1,600-meter sprint relay, Prep's team of Ian Imery, Simon Whiteman, John Gnibus and George Crist, finished eighth in 3:56.21.

ND-FAIRFIELD

The Southwest Conference also held its league championships and Notre Dame-Fairfield placed 11th in the team competition.

The Lancers' Christian Turner won the shot put with a toss of 51-feet, 4¾-inches.
