Fairfield Warde's senior field hockey players had never lost to Fairfield Ludlowe in their high school careers.

Stacey DiLeo was going to make sure that didn't change Thursday night.

The Mustangs' senior midfielder and captain scored three goals, including the game-winner at 6:57 of overtime, as Warde came from behind to stun Ludlowe, 4-3, at Tetreau/Davis Field.

"That's the best feeling in the world," DiLeo said. "If I didn't have my team to back me up, though, that would never have happened." Jillian Tallent scored the other goal for Warde with an assist from DiLeo as well as the Mustangs improved to 7-2 on the year.

"I think determination was something that we really had," Warde Head Coach Jodie Shannon said. "This is their season."

Elise Perazzini and Meredith McGann each scored goals for Ludlowe. Stephanie Gorab also scored on a penalty stroke in a wild, four-goal second half.

"It was really high-quality field hockey," Ludlowe Head Coach Cathy Hamill said. "It could have gone either way."
