Events commemorating the 1779 burning of Fairfield by British troops are planned in early July by the Fairfield Museum and History Center.

On July 7, the museum plans a "Burning of Fairfield Walking Tour" at 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $5 for museum members, $7 for the general public.

"Tavern Night" at the historic Sun Tavern, off Town Hall Green, is set for 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 9. Cost is $30 in advance, $35 at the door.

Jackson Kuhl, a historian from Fairfiled, will discuss his new book, "Samuel Smedley: Connecticut Privateer," at 1 p.m. July 10 at the museum, 370 Beach Road. Smedley, a Fairfield native, was captain of the American ship Defence during the Revolutionary War.
