What’s better than a free Krispy Kreme doughnut after getting your COVID-19 vaccine? How about a free cocktail?

Participating Connecticut restaurants are offering one free alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink to customers who show their vaccine card. The promotion will run from May 19 to 31, as all outdoor COVID restrictions end.

A food purchase is required, and the offer is limited to one drink per person. Each restaurant will determine which drinks are “on them.”

“It could be a lemonade, could be a cool frosty, probably not their high-priced champagne,” Gov. Ned Lamont quipped Monday in announcing the #CTDrinksOnUS promotion at his coronavirus briefing.

Lamont predicted that hundreds of restaurants would eventually participate and said the state would spend the ensuing weeks getting the word out.

It’s coming as demand for the vaccine is waning across the state, with young adults lagging in signing up for inoculations. The 67-year-old Lamont left no doubt about the target group, saying, “You’ve got a few weeks to think about it, don’t let this go to waste, young people.”

Statewide participants so far include all Wood-n-Tap restaurants and all locations of Bear’s Smokehouse. Fairfield County restaurants include Match in Norwalk, Don Memo, Kawa Ni, The Whelk and Match Burger Lobster in Westport and Taco Daddy and Lila Rose in Stamford.

Other businesses across the country are offering free food, drinks or services with proof of vaccination. Learn more about these deals here.
