For the last 15 years, Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization from Harrington, Maine, has trucked thousands of wreaths along Route 1 to Arlington National Cemetery, stopping at various veterans' cemeteries and memorials along the way.

Wreaths were placed on veteran memorials and in cemeteries at the Moment of Remembrance at noon Dec. 11 by many participating organizations, including the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a women's volunteer organization that promotes patriotism.

Fairfield's Eunice Dennie Burr Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution honored Fairfield veterans by placing a wreath before the Veteran's Memorial on the Old Post Road during the Moment of Remembrance.

The trucks then continued to Arlington National Cemetery, and placed wreaths in Section 60, where veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are buried.
