Fairfield Knights of Columbus host Memorial Day service
The service, which starts at noon, will include a memorial Mass led by Rev. Monsignor Blase M. Gintoli, Assumption pastor and Knights chaplain. Assisting will be Deacon Wayne E. Malloy, assigned to St. John's Parish in Darien. Malloy, a Vietnam veteran, will be deacon of gospel and homilist. Raymond J. Chervenak will be deacon of the Mass.
Units of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans and community scouts will participate with Knights of Columbus 4th degree Honor Guards.
Fairfield's selectmen, police and fire chiefs, state and local government officials and state officers of the Knights of Columbus are expected to attend.
A military service honoring the war dead of the U.S. will take place on the parish grounds immediately following the Mass. The service will include prayers for the military, the placing of a memorial wreath, flag ceremony, a piper, a gun salute and Taps.
