Forty Fairfield Warde High School juniors in teacher James D'Acosta's four American history classes recently took a one-day trip to Washington, D.C., to visit war memorials in the nation's capital.

The students visited the National World War II Memorial, the Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Vietnam Veterans War Memorial as part of their studies of the various conflicts. The students, who wrote essays about their visit, were led through the war memorials by Vietnam War veterans from the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund.

The students last fall took a one-day trip to Gettysburg National Military Park in Gettysburg, Pa., and this May will go on a third excursion to local houses of worship to study the relationship between religious faith and social activism, especially during the 1960s.
