It was a holiday celebration that showed the true "stripes" of the season.

The "Pinstripes" from Fairfield Country day School performed a medley of Christmas songs recently for the youngsters who attend the Southport Congregational Church preschool program.

The Fairfield County Day upper school musical ensemble -- all boys -- performed for students, teachers and parents in the church's newly renovated Fellowship Hall.

Older boys entertained the group with modern variations of the season's memorable music and then led the young audience in singing holiday favorites. The two schools hope to make this an annual event.

The FCDS Pinstripes ensemble has 28 auditioned singers from within the school's Concert Choir in grades seven through nine. Each member of Pinstripes also serves as a role-model singer for the FCDS Concert Choir.

The young men rehearse weekly to prepare a cappella vocal music in all styles and languages. They perform as an ensemble within concerts given by the larger Concert Choir and on special occasions like the holiday event for the Southport preschool.

They have traveled to Europe and plan a performance tour through Italy this summer.
