Danbury Mayor Mark Boughton appears in Super Bowl ad

DANBURY — Mayor Mark Boughton appeared in a commercial that aired during the Super Bowl on Sunday night.

In the ad for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Boughton explains how he was connected to the center for a highly specialized surgery after doctors discovered last July that he had a benign tumor inside his brain.

He recounts how he was unanimously recommended to UPMC's Dr. Robert Friedlander, who performed the surgery in August and appears in the commercial to tout the center's technology. The seven-hour surgery was a success and Boughton returned to Connecticut just a week later.

“I think I’ve said it before, just how grateful I am to be alive,” an emotional Boughton says. “I’ll never forget it.”
