FAIRFIELD — More than 200 young children drown in backyard swimming pools every year, according to Fairfield fire officials.
To ensure the safety of your children and others, the fire department posted some tips for homeowners to adhere to to keep everyone safe.
Homeowners should secure their pool with fencing and barriers, remove or secure and lock ladders when the pool is not in use, keep the pool water clean and clear and test and adjust the chemical levels to minimize risk of disease.
Children should be kept under constant supervision, younger swimmers should wear U.S. Coast Guard-approved life preservers in and around the pool. The fire department encourages parents and homeowners to ensure someone at the pool is CPR certified.
