FAIRFIELD — Police are investigating an incident in which a reportedly stolen car led officers on a chase into Bridgeport Sunday night.

According to Fairfield Police Capt. Robert Kalamaras, shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday, officers attempted to stop a Hyundai Accent bearing a lost or stolen registration plate.

“The vehicle failed to stop and engaged police in pursuit into Bridgeport,” Kalamaras said in an email. “The pursuit was terminated on Wood Avenue at Birdseye Street.”

He said that the errant Hyundai was later located near the Bridgeport Police Department unoccupied. The vehicle identification number confirmed that the car was recently stolen out of Bridgeport. Kalamaras said the case is still under investigation.
