Accidents on the Merritt Parkway and I-95 snarled southbound traffic during the peak of the AM commute on Thursday.

The parkway accident, reported at 8:38 a.m., closed the left lane between Exits 48 and 47 in Trumbull.

The state Department of Transportation estimated it’s taking nearly an hour to drive the 17 miles from Trumbull to Norwalk.

On southbound I-95, there was another accident that shut down the left lane between Exits 7 and 6.

Southbound I-95 delays started at Exit 18 in Westport and continue for more than 13 miles with an average speed of 12 mph.

At 9 a.m., DOT said it took 86 minutes to drive from Norwalk to the New York border; a distance of just 16 miles.

Residual delays lingered through 10 a.m.
