KENT — Residents have two weeks to sign up to speak during the state Siting Council’s upcoming public hearing on the proposed new cell tower in town.

The July 23 hearing on Homeland and AT&T’s application for the construction, maintenance and operation of a tower at 93 Richards Road or the 38 Bald Hill Road area will take place via the video communication platform Zoom.

The Bald Hill Road and Richards Road properties were selected as candidate sites based on feasibility, according to AT&T and Homeland.

The need for improved wireless coverage and the preservation of the town’s natural, rural aesthetic have been two concerns raised by residents about the proposed tower.

The Siting Council’s public hearing will begin with an evidentiary session at 2 p.m., followed by a public comment at 6:30 p.m.
