BRIDGEPORT — More than 3,000 United Illuminating customers were without power in the area Saturday night after an unplanned outage.

UI reported 3,279 customers were in the dark after an outage that began at 9:01 p.m. Saturday. The utility company said the affected zip codes were 06604 and 06605 in Bridgeport, as well as 06825 in Fairfield.

The estimated restoration provided by UI was by 1:15 a.m. Sunday.

As of 9:45 p.m. Saturday, there was no update on the status of the outage, including whether a UI crew had been assigned and was en route to the issue.

There were several other calls about issues with wires in the city Saturday night.

Around 9:20 p.m., city fire units came over the radio waves to report “very low” hanging wires near the intersection of Pequonnock and Grand streets. Police were requested to the scene for traffic control.

Units that responded to the 100 block of Carleton Avenue report damage from fireworks to UI poles and wires in the area, also requesting police to shut down the area for safety.

At 10:20 p.m., the city announced power outages on the West Side in the area of Capital Avenue to North Avenue. The city said these outages also affected traffic signals, and urged drivers to travel safely at intersections.
